Their odyssey through the Mid-Atlantic and beyond-spanning the harsh winters of Colorado and Minnesota to the verdant hills of Asheville and upstate New York-has been a journey through both grand stages and humble taverns.  The group’s performances focus on delivering a moment that feels as genuine as a home-cooked meal shared with friends. \n \n	Damn Tall Buildings – Saturday\, October 12th at 5:45 pm\n“If you like your bluegrass served with a little punch\, attitude\, grit and gravy\, with that busking spirit that was so present and palpable in the early incarnations of Old Crow Medicine Show and made your realize that string band music could be so much more than fuddy-duddy reenactments by crusty ol’ relics\, then the Damn Tall Buildings will slide in nice as a welcome edition to your listening rotation. Bluegrass at heart\, but pulling from a wide range of influences including swing\, ragtime\, jazz\, and even a hint of contemporary perspective in the songwriting\, they offer virtually unmatched energy and enthusiasm\, underpinned by intelligent songs that don’t skimp on the infectiousness…”\n– Savingcountrymusic.com\n \n	Bundle Tickets with Discounted Hotel Stay\nLocated next door to the Hall of Fame\, The Hampton Inn & Suites Waterfront is the perfect option for accommodations when joining us for a concert!  Enjoy sweeping riverfront views while staying with our hotel partner.  When you bundle your tickets\, the Hampton Inn offers discounted rates for your stay.  The price includes two tickets to the concert\, and the tickets are located in row H.  You will receive your tickets at check-in with the hotel.  Call the Hampton Inn directly at:  270-685-2005

Miller\n7:15 pm:  Armchair Boogie\n\nPlay Video \nThe Lineup: \nArmchair Boogie\n \nJamgrass\, newgrass\, funkgrass\, whatever you want to call it- Armchair Boogie is rapidly becoming one of the country’s hottest acts. With an unbounded sound\, this Wisconsin-based quartet is known for their powerful harmonies\, timeless originals\, and choice covers\, along with unforgettable live performances. Listed as a “Must-See Roots Artists at Bourbon & Beyond” by The Bluegrass Situation who wrote\, “We recently caught this jammy Wisconsin outfit at Earl Scruggs Music Festival\, where they burnt down their late-night set.” \nJohn R. Miller\n \nJohn R Miller is a true hyphenate artist: singer-songwriter-picker. Every song on his thrilling debut solo album\, Depreciated\, is lush with intricate wordplay and haunting imagery\, as well as being backed by a band that is on fire. One of his biggest long-time fans is roots music favorite Tyler Childers\, who says he’s “a well-travelled wordsmith mapping out the world he’s seen\, three chords at a time.” Miller is somehow able to transport us to a shadowy honkytonk and get existential all in the same line with his tightly written compositions. Miller’s own guitar-playing is on fine display here along with vocals that evoke the white-waters of the Potomac River rumbling below the high ridges of his native Shenandoah Valley. \nThe Local Honeys \n \nThough many artists are defined by place\, only a handful of artists come to define the places they’re from. The Local Honeys are Kentucky and Kentucky runs through their veins like an unbridled racehorse. When a master songsmith like Tom T Hall calls an artist “a great credit to a wonderful Kentucky tradition” it’s time to pull up a chair and pay attention. As it pertains to The Local Honeys he was right on the money. For almost a decade the duo (Montana Hobbs and Linda Jean Stokley) have been an integral part of the Kentucky musicscape. They’ve paid their dues\, garnering countless accolades and accomplishments (tours with Tyler Childers\, Colter Wall\, praise from the New York Times) and have become the defining sound of real deal\, honest-to-god Kentucky music.

SUMMARY:Sanctus Real
DESCRIPTION:The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum is hosting First Fridays a free concert series occurring throughout the summer and fall featuring some of Christian music’s most exciting artists. \nFaith Night at the Museum is a free event featuring food trucks\, free live music\, vendors\, and more. Friday After Five will sell concessions\, but this is an alcohol-free concert series creating a family friendly environment for people of all ages. Seating is not provided\, so be sure to bring your chair and blankets for a good ol’ time on the lawn. No outside coolers permitted. \nScheduled from 5pm to 8pm\, Faith Night at the Museum is a free event featuring food trucks and live music.  The Owensboro Bluegrass Band will take the stage at 5:30p and the Guest Artist will begin at 6:45p. \n	Change\, particularly unexpected change\, can sometimes be a foundational crack that causes the whole structure to come tumbling down. Survival\, it turns out\, depends on what you do with the rubble. After 20 years of touring\, 24 radio hits and full album sales exceeding 750\,000\, Sanctus Real cemented itself as a trusted brand in Christian music. But in 2016\, original members Mark Graalman and Chris Rohman experienced a windfall of change that shook the foundation of everything they had built. They parted ways with their longtime label partner\, their booking agent\, and close friend and lead singer\, Matt Hammitt\, left the band to spend more time with his family. \n“We started this band in our parents’ basement and never knew we’d get this far\,” shares Rohman. “When Matt left\, Mark and I just started praying and waiting to see what God had planned for us.” \nEnter Dustin Lolli\, Sanctus Real’s new lead singer and creative influence. When Lolli met Graalman and Rohman\, he was working as a full-time worship leader in Michigan and performing in a folk duo with his wife. \n“We immediately loved Dustin’s approach to songwriting and lyric structure\,” says Graalman\, “and knew he could be a refreshing addition to the band.” \nFor Lolli\, the decision to join Sanctus Real seemed like an easy one\, but getting to know the heart of the band tipped the scales. “I saw in these guys a real focus to write songs that move people toward an understanding of their identity in Christ. They’ve built an amazing platform to be able to share God’s love and I knew I wanted to be a part of that.” \nWith a new lead singer in place\, the trio began writing songs for Changed\, their first album together. Lolli’s soulful vocals are noticeably different from the band’s original sound\, but the focus of the music remains – hope found in an unchanging savior. While the new songs are certainly influenced by the outward changes the band has experienced\, the message is centered on how change can bring about personal redemption. Life is\, whether good or bad\, a series of unexpected moments. With Changed\, the band communicates that nothing’s ever a lost cause in the kingdom of heaven. Stripping away what was and getting down to the one thing that matters has given the band a new voice and solidified the purpose behind it. \n“We’re a group of guys making music together as opposed to a group of guys getting behind a song. We’re focusing back on the simple message of the gospel\,” says Graalman. “It’s the simple message of God’s love.” \nWith a shift in focus and a new lead singer\, the next season for the band is a clean slate\, a transition\, a rebirth of the original vision for making music together. In the midst of that rebirth\, Sanctus Real is discovering when you focus on what matters\, you open yourself up to even more possibility.

Beyond their chart success\, the Bellamy Brothers have also left an indelible mark on the genre through their innovation and willingness to push boundaries. The road that started on the pop music charts in the ’70’s\, took a winding turn into country music in the’80’s\, paving the way for duos to come\, such as Brooks & Dunn\, Montgomery Gentry\, Big & Rich\, andpreviously-The Judds. But before the road forked into country\, the musical odyssey of brothers Bellamystarted creatively smoldering in their home state of Florida\, before exploding nationally amidst the ’70’spop music culture of L.A. The brothers first official gig was in 1968\, playing a free show with their father at the RattlesnakeRoundup in San Antonio\, Florida. They honed their early skills playing black clubs throughout the south\,and singing backup for artists such as Percy Sledge\, Eddie Floyd\, and Little Anthony & The Imperials.Within a few months\, the brothers moved north\, immersing themselves and their rock/country sound inthe Atlanta market\, where the Allman Brothers were the emerging kings of the music world. With the dawning of the Age of Aquarius on the horizon\, and America embroiled in a smoke haze ofdrugs\, civil unrest and an unpopular war\, The Bellamy’s music picked-up the hard driving edge thatbespoke the times. Songwriting had become David Bellamy’s drug of choice during the long road gigs heand Howard were regularly pulling bodies and equipment to and from. It was his songwriting that wasposed to soon provide the duo a national breakout. The break came in the form of the hit\, “Spiders & Snakes\,” written by David and recorded by Jim Stafford. The song became a smash\, eventually selling more than three million units worldwide. It became thecatapult that rocketed the brother onto the L.A. music scene. Young and impressionable\, Howard andDavid fell into the musical circle of the greats of the day: Bob Dylan\, James Taylor\, and Van Morrison\, aswell as West Coast based country rockers like Poco and the Byrds. It was a creative shoe that fit. Now known by their music and the company they were keeping\, The Bellamys officially lifted off thelaunch pad in 1976 when their single\, “Let Your Love Flow\,” became an instant smash in both the U.S. andEurope. It stayed on the international charts long enough to build a huge international fan base for thehip young brothers that endures to this day. In Germany alone it perched at #1 for more than twomonths. The love was indeed flowing as The Bellamys jammed for audiences on their sold-out concertsand shared stages with the likes of Loggins & Messina\, the Doobie Brothers\, and the Beach Boys.\, withtheir patented blend of rock/country music. True to their musical roots\, their style and their songwriting was moving steadily more towards theirraising. By the late ’70’s The Bellamys were emerging on the country charts with another bona fidesmash. “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me)\,” originally scrawled on adinner napkin by David\, rocketed them to the top of the country charts the way “Let Your Love Flow\,” haddone in the pop market just a few years earlier. It proved to be the first of a string of fourteen #1 singlesin the U.S. alone. Success followed success: “Dancing Cowboys\,” “Sugar Daddy\,” “You Ain’t Just Whistlin’ Dixie\,” “LoversLive Longer\,” “Do You Love As Good As You Look\,” “Redneck Girl\,” “For All The Wrong Reasons\,” “I LoveHer Mind\,” “I Need More Of You\,” “Old Hippie\,” “Too Much Is Not Enough\,” “Kids Of The Baby Boom\,” and“Reggae Cowboy” and “Crazy From The Heart\,”…all have lined the corridors of the Bellamy’s musicalhistory and their walls with platinum and gold. Along the way\, Howard and David created a patent on the newly cool “duo” category in country music. Inthe era of the 2000’s\, The Bellamy Brothers hold the record in both the Academy of Country Music (ACM)and the Country Music Association Awards (CMA) for the most duo nominations. Numerous Grammynods have also been directed toward the brothers. Internationally\, the story has been the same-though the titles may be different. The Bellamys havereleased more than two-dozen hit songs outside the U.S. that were never released here. With a sharp eyeon the songwriting skills that have been the bedrock of their success\, Howard and David concur that theircareer is unique in their international finesse for matching their songs to the market. “For the international releases\, you have to have a strong melody\,” notes David. “The lyric is veryimportant\, but internationally the melody is something fans can lock into\, even if they can’t understandthe lyrics.” Howard and David continue to perform and film TV specials in Europe and around the world. These days when the subject turns to touring\, The Bellamys are showing a new generation of countrymusic how it’s done. “We’re old road dogs\,” grins Howard when asked about the motivation behind thebrothers 200 plus concert dates each year. Adds David: “Our live draw is bigger than it was in the ’80’s. Ithink the same people that grew up with us and with our music in the ’60’s and ’70’s obviously haveraised a whole new generation of Bellamy fans who started toddling to our music. Now they’re turning upat our concerts as college kids\, who are really turned on and tuned in to us and our music….it’s a greatfeeling.” On the infrequent off days from the road\, Howard and David head the bus back to their 150-acre familyranch in Darby\, Florida just north of Tampa. A working ranch\, the spread consists of Purebred Charloiscattle and quarter horses. Amid a land lush with fruit trees\, ancient oaks and crepe myrtles\, threegeneration of the Bellamy family\, headed by David and Howard’s mother\, Frances\, populate the homesclustered in the family compound. The Bellamy Brothers latest project is their new album titled ’40 Years’ is an ambitious project thatcelebrates their career with 20 of their biggest hits and then adds 20 brand new songs in this 2 cdanniversary collection. \nBundle Tickets with Discounted Hotel Stay\nLocated next door to the Hall of Fame\, The Hampton Inn & Suites Waterfront is the perfect option for accommodations when joining us for a concert!

Father of two boys and two girls. Singer. Songwriter. Storyteller. Sharer of God’s Word. \nIt was when Jordan St. Cyr was a teen and served with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) that he found the inspiration to pursue music as a career. He eventually released an EP\, and in the years that have followed\, he has released more music and has received numerous life-changing opportunities to work alongside many talented songwriters\, producers\, and artists\, all of whom have encouraged him along his journey. From playing numerous events of all sizes and meeting people from many different walks of life\, humanity’s deep desire for meaningful connection has been revealed to him and the hope to find something more vibrant than our current reality. \nSt. Cyr dropped his first full-length self-titled album in the spring of 2022 with Seattle-based label\, BEC Recordings. The project features the chart-climbing radio hits “Fires” and “Weary Traveler” – both of which offer a pursuit of hope\, even in our darkest moments\, to know that God gives us stories to share and encourage one another through our fires and weary travels\, to give us strength in the midst of them. And it was “Fires” that quickly put St. Cyr on the map\, hitting the airwaves on major networks and stations for nearly 18 months straight and reaching millions weekly and going top 5. “Weary Traveler” followed\, which also became his first No. 1 hit single\, taking the top spot on all radio charts. \n2022 continued to be an astounding year for St. Cyr. He became a two-time GMA Dove Awards nominee\, being recognized for Best New Artist and for Short-Form Video Of The Year (“Weary Traveler”)\, followed by sweeping the GMA Canada Covenant Awards with six wins\, the most out of any other nominees and adding to his already five Covenant Award wins. He was recognized as Artist of the Year\, Album and Male Vocalist of the Year along with Best Pop Song\, Live Music Artist\, and AC Artist of the Year. \nWhile he continues to create music and tour\, Jordan St. Cyr is really just getting started. \n“God has walked my family through so much these last few years\,” he shares about his music. “We’ve been gifted a deeper understanding of what pain and suffering can bring about\, and I believe the message of my songs is a gentle reminder of our desperate need for a faithful God. No matter what our current reality is\, we can know with assurance that the present-working power of Jesus is with us every step of the way.” \n“My prayer is that my songs would bring comfort and joy to those who hear them. I pray that listeners would be more hopeful and open to the depths of God’s love for them knowing that their circumstances are not a reflection of how God feels about them. Rather\, their circumstances would reveal the closeness and nearness of the Holy Spirit.”

Everything changed when she met Jesus in an intimate encounter through worship at a youth conference; “Worship became my language with God\,” she explains. “It allowed me to communicate with the Lord in a way I hadn’t experienced before…it opened my heart.” \nRealizing music was a gift she desired to give back to the Lord\, she began leading worship around the world\, drawing people from a variety of cultures and church backgrounds under the banner of Jesus. With a passion for creating a safe and prayerful space through her music\, her focus has always been an authentic portrayal of her relationship with God. \nWith A New Reality\, it is her hope that people will come away knowing that it’s ok to question\, to pull on the string and enable the unraveling to happen\, knowing there is One who is gently mending the tangled threads back together into a beautiful\, reconstructed tapestry. \nWoven with contemplative songs that expose honest vulnerability along with corporate worship songs that express the magnificence of God\, the entire collection offers new ways to see suffering\, questions\, and silence as building blocks for a new faith-one that is stronger because of the struggle. Sarah Kroger brings listeners into that newness by helping us all ponder the mystery of God\, rest in the wonder\, and see that questions are a sacred path to a new reality. \n

SUMMARY:The Kody Norris Show
DESCRIPTION:Join us June 1\, for The Kody Norris Show! \nDeeply rooted in North American folk music\, Norris has crafted an original performance that harkens back and tips a hat to the traditions created by Bill Monroe\, Jimmy Martin’s showmanship\, the Stanley Brothers’ harmonies\, performances of the Grand Ole Opry and a bit of Vaudeville. Top notch picking is center stage\, but humor and visual flash are part of the entertaining package. Always clad in colorful\, tailored suits adorned with rhinestones\, ties\, classic hats and ornate boots\, the band earns its moniker as a “show.” The brand is traditional\, clean cut\, acoustic and always entertaining. \nTickets are on sale now.  Preferred seating is $32 and reserved seating is $25.  Doors open at 5:30 pm\, and the concert begins at 7:00 pm.   Bar and concessions available. \n \n Concert Tickets\n \n \n\n The Kody Norris Show\n	\nWhatever you do\, don’t call The Kody Norris Show ‘retro.’ \nBecause while the reigning SPBGMA Entertainers of the Year are known for the rhinestones that shine\nfrom their lapels and the fringe that hangs from their collars seem to conjure up memories of times\ngone by\, The Kody Norris Show are very much directing their gaze forever forward.\nNow\, more than ever before. \nThe talented group\, made up of frontman Kody Norris\, Josiah Tyree\, Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris\, and\nCharlie Lowman\, finds themselves with a growing legion of fans craving the comfort that comes from\ntheir retro look\, but equally craving dynamic instrumentation and thought-provoking lyrics – all of\nwhich can be heard throughout their epic new album Rhinestone Revival.\n“There is a whole chapter of country music that’s just kind of faded away\,” The Kody Norris Show’s\nfrontman once said. “I believe The Kody Norris Show has been instrumental in bringing back some of\nthat nostalgia and some of that classic look that country music and bluegrass music used to have.”\nThe foundations of the electrifying four-piece band can be found within the roots of Kody Norris\nhimself\, a once inquisitive youngster from Mountain City\, Tennessee who would spend hours sitting in\nthe passenger seat of his Uncle Jack’s Chevrolet El Camino listening to the entirety of The Stanley\nBrothers 16 Greatest Hits tape\, wondering if he would ever be able to match the sweet harmonies\ncoming through the speakers.\nIt was those very harmonies that Norris also would recognize wavering through the rafters of the\nBaptist church he attended as a kid. There was a bluegrass quartet that would play in the Free Will\nBaptist Church\, and soon Norris became infatuated with the music that could materialize from a\nbanjo and a guitar. So\, at nine years old\, he picked up the mandolin.\nAnd he never put it down. \nIt was a similar love affair of music for Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris\, who started playing classical violin\nin the fourth grade\, but by the fifth grade\, she knew it wasn’t for her. Instead\, in a quest to differentiate\nthekodynorrisshow.com\nherself from her musical counterparts in her grade school orchestra\, she took up the fiddle. She\nbegan playing the festival circuit alongside the likes of the legendary Larry Sparks and the Lonesome\nRamblers and soon became one of the most dynamic females on those festival stages.\nIt was on that stage she eventually met her husband Kody\, who had already gone on to play alongside\nthe likes of Ralph Stanley\, Ralph Stanley II\, and Joe Isaacs throughout his already impressive career.\nIn 2017\, banjo extraordinaire Josiah Tyree signed on with The Kody Norris Show\, and soon his\nold-time clawhammer style fit right into the bluegrass style that the band was becoming known for\nacross the country. And when bass player Charlie Lowman joined in on the fun\, armed with a\ngiddiness and love for the music that he plays that soon became infectious\, The Kody Norris Show as\nwe now know it was complete.\nIt was musical magic at its finest. \nIt’s this easy-going nature that became downright illuminated on 2017’s When I Get the Money Made\,\nwhich was named Bluegrass Album of the Year by the National Traditional Country Music\nAssociation. The Kody Norris Show followed it up with 2019’s All Suited Up\, which debuted at #7 on\nthe Billboard charts. Now playing over 100 dates a year across the country and around the world\, The\nKody Norris Show have been part of the University of Chicago Folk Festival and are part of two weekly\nprograms on the acclaimed RFD-TV’s network\, The Cumberland Highlanders Show and The Bluegrass\nTrail.\nBut with the release of Rhinestone Revival comes a feeling that listeners have just begun to witness\nThe Kody Norris Show’s very own revival\, as the band finds themselves sprinkling their iconic\nrhinestones on a few different music genres to solidify their place on the musical landscape.\nAnd the fans can’t get enough.\nIn fact\, it’s those fans that have raised The Kody Norris Show to a place in which they stand today\, a\nplace where the four-piece\, multi-instrumentalist\, bluegrass band are quickly becoming four of the\nmost epic entertainers of our time. Add that to the songwriting displayed on the Kody Norris-penned\n“Baltimore I’m Leaving\,” “Fiddler’s Rock\,” “Please Tell Me Why\,” and the infectious “Gotta Get My Baby\nBack” on Rhinestone Revival\, and there is no doubt that The Kody Norris Show is as current as ever.\nThey ain’t retro. They have something different. They have something uniquely theirs. They have\nsomething that makes them stand out.\n“We want people to know who we are\,” Norris once said. \nAnd they will. \n	Bundle Tickets with Discounted Hotel Stay\nLocated next door to the Hall of Fame\, The Hampton Inn & Suites Waterfront is the perfect option for accommodations when joining us for a concert!

They recorded four Gospel records early in their career. In 1966\, Larry went to college at the University of Houston where he studied English and Law. In 1971\, he auditioned for The Imperials\, Elvis’ backup group. While he did not get the job\, he met Dottie West\, who was the opening act for Jimmy Dean. Dean would later become one of Larry’s oldest and dearest friends. Dottie was initially taken with Larry’s resemblance to Nashville songwriter Mickey Newbury. She told him one night in Las Vegas that he looked so much like Mickey\, he had to be able to write great songs too. Encouraged\, Larry returned to Houston\, wrote eight songs\, and sent them to Dottie.  She liked them so much she sent him a plane ticket to Nashville. \nThrough Dottie’s friendship\, Larry met Kris Kristofferson\, who championed his talents as a writer and singer. Kristofferson’s introduction to Fred Foster at Monument Records resulted in a recording contract with the label. Larry’s first album\, The Pilgrim\, was released later that year. Johnny Cash wrote the liner notes for the album and dubbed him “The Pilgrim”\, a name he called him the rest of his life.  At this time Steve and Rudy were still in college at Texas Tech University\, but by 1975 they moved to Nashville to join Larry to form the group as we know it today. \nThe brothers still perform approximately 50 shows per year as well as many performances at the famed Grand Ole’ Opry.  They are also in the planning stages of recording some new music.  “We are blessed that fans still love our music & attend our shows” says Steve & “we hope to continue as long as that’s the case.” \nListed below are a few of the awards\, television shows & venues the brothers have worked. \n1964 World’s Fair New York City\, New York / Hee-Haw / Hee-Haw Honeys \nHuckabee TV Show / The Barbara Mandrel Show/ The Merv Griffith Show \nThe Mike Douglas Show / Gatlin Brothers ABC Special / Solid Gold TV Show \nThe Dinah Shore Show / John Davidson TV Show / SALUTE with Dick Clark \nJohnny Cash Special / Crook & Chase Show / Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack \nLove Boat / Marty Stuart TV Show / Larry’s Country Diner \nJason Crabb TV Show / Pop Goes the County / Marty Robbins TV Show / Ralph Emory TV Show \nTommy Hunter TV Show (Canada) / Bill Gaither Videos / Carnegie Hall (New York) \nAT&T Stadium (Dallas) / Wembley Stadium (London) / Death Valley (Clemson University) \nSuper Dome (New Orleans) / Madison Square Garden (New York) / Pontiac Silverdome (Pontiac) \nAstrodome (Houston) / Reliant Field (Houston) \nNissan Stadium (Titans Nashville) / Yankee Stadium (New York) \nRose Bowl (Pasadena\, CA) / Candlestick Park (San Francisco) / Forum (Los Angeles) \nRyman Auditorium (Nashville) \nGrand Ole Opry House (Nashville) / 45 years members of Grand Ole Opry \nPerformed for last 8 U.S. PRESIDENTS \n	Bundle Tickets with Discounted Hotel Stay\nLocated next door to the Hall of Fame\, The Hampton Inn & Suites Waterfront is the perfect option for accommodations when joining us for a concert!

SUMMARY:Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder
DESCRIPTION:Join us March 15 for Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder!\nTickets are on sale now.  Reserved seating is $58 and preferred seating is $68.  Doors open at 6:00 pm\, and the concert begins at 7:00 pm.   Bar and concessions available. \nThis concert is part of the Great American Bluegrass Jam weekend. Be sure to check out the other festivities of the weekend! \n \n Concert Tickets\n \n \n\n Ricky Skaggs\n	\nFifteen-time GRAMMY® Award-winner Ricky Skaggs’ career is easily among the most significant in recent country music history. If Skaggs’ burgeoning trophy case full of awards wasn’t already enough evidence of that fact\, consider that legendary guitarist Chet Atkins once credited Skaggs with “single-handedly saving country music.” His life’s path has taken him to various musical genres\, from where it all began in bluegrass music\, to striking out on new musical journeys\, while still leaving his musical roots intact. \nBorn July 18\, 1954 in Cordell\, Kentucky\, Skaggs showed signs of future stardom at an early age\, playing mandolin on stage with bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe at 6 and appearing on TV with Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs at 7. He emerged as a professional bluegrass musician in 1971\, when he and his friend Keith Whitley were invited to join the legendary Ralph Stanley’s band the Clinch Mountain Boys. Skaggs then went on to record and perform with progressive bluegrass acts like the Country Gentlemen and J.D. Crowe & the New South\, whose self-titled 1975 Rounder Records debut album was instantly recognized as a landmark bluegrass achievement. He then led Boone Creek\, which also featured Dobro ace and fellow New South alumnus Jerry Douglas. \nBut Skaggs turned to the more mainstream country music genre in the late ’70s when he joined Emmylou Harris’s Hot Band\, replacing Rodney Crowell. He became a recording artist in his own right in 1981 when his Epic label debut album Waitin’ for the Sun to Shine topped the country charts and yielded a pair of #1 hits. Overall\, his productive stay at Epic Records would result in a total of 12 #1 hits. Additionally\, he garnered eight Country Music Association Awards–including the coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy in 1985. \nSkaggs\, of course\, fit right in with young “new-traditionalist” ’80s artists like Randy Travis\, and helped rejuvenate the country music genre after the worn-out “Urban Cowboy” period. But\, Skaggs put his own stamp on the country format by infusing his bluegrass and traditional country music roots into the contemporary Nashville sound. \nSkaggs’ 1997 album Bluegrass Rules!\, released on his newly-formed Skaggs Family Records label\, marked a triumphant return to bluegrass-which he’s solidified ever since with a series of GRAMMY® Award winning albums\, recorded with his amazing bluegrass band\, Kentucky Thunder (8-time winners of the IBMA ‘Instrumental Group of the Year’). Skaggs’ label has also served as a home for similar bluegrass and roots music-oriented artists including The Whites. \nIn the past decade\, he has been honored with inductions into the Gospel Music Association’s Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame. In 2018\, a landmark year\, Skaggs was also awarded membership into the National Fiddler Hall of Fame\, the IBMA Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and country music’s greatest honor\, the Country Music Hall of Fame. Most recently\, he was awarded the prestigious National Medal of Arts in 2020 for his contributions to the American music industry. \nRicky struck his first chords on a mandolin over 60 years ago\, and he continues to do his part to lead the recent roots revival in music. Clearly his passion for it puts him in the position to bring his lively\, distinctively American form of music out of isolation and into the ears and hearts of audiences across the country and around the world. Ricky Skaggs is always forging ahead with cross-cultural\, genre-bending musical ideas and inspirations. \n	Bundle Tickets with Discounted Hotel Stay\nLocated next door to the Hall of Fame\, The Hampton Inn & Suites Waterfront is the perfect option for accommodations when joining us for a concert!

SUMMARY:USPS Bluegrass Stamp Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:What:\nThe U.S. Postal Service will commemorate the rich history of bluegrass music in the United States. The stamp dedication ceremony will occur before Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame inductee Ricky Skaggs’ concert.\nNews of the stamp is being shared with the hashtag #BluegrassStamp.\nWho:\nThe Honorable Robert M. Duncan\, Member\, Postal Service Board of Governors\nWhen:\nFriday\, March 15\, 2024\, at 6 p.m. Central time zone\nWhere:\n\nBluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum (bluegrasshall.org)\n311 W 2nd St\nOwensboro\, KY 42301\n\n\n \n	About the Stamp: \nBorn in the mid-20th century\, bluegrass defies time\, drawing inspiration from the past while also openly embracing innovation. At once rural and urban\, emotional and highly technical\, this singular American music style remains unconstrained by geography\, attracting fans worldwide who all share the same passion for what they affectionately call the “high lonesome sound.” \nInspired by vintage bluegrass concert posters\, the stamp art features four acoustic string instruments typical of bluegrass bands: guitar\, five-string banjo\, fiddle\, and mandolin. Text at the top of the stamp reads “High Lonesome Sound\,” the title of a 1963 documentary about Appalachian folk music and a familiar nickname for bluegrass. \nThe five-string banjo dominates the sound of bluegrass and\, along with guitar\, mandolin\, and bass\, sets the rhythmic foundation of this often fast-paced music. Fiddle\, mandolin\, banjo\, and guitar evoke a range of melodic flavors and emotions in their solos and backup. Instrumental dexterity\, combined with tight vocal harmonies and heartfelt\, sometimes mournful lyrics\, creates an electrifying and emotional experience for both performers and listeners. \nMusic historians generally agree that bluegrass as we know it originated with Bill Monroe (1911-1996)\, who drew on old-time fiddle and church music as well as gospel\, blues\, and jazz to fashion a style of music that was both brand-new and achingly familiar. By 1945\, Monroe and his band\, the Blue Grass Boys\, had solidified the key components of bluegrass: refined vocal harmonies\, driving tempos\, and outstanding musicianship. \nOnce viewed as a type of country music\, bluegrass-which musicologist Alan Lomax famously described as “folk music with overdrive”-emerged as its own distinct genre in the 1950s. Soon the music could be found just about everywhere\, from college campuses and large urban areas to television shows and movies. Outdoor festivals became a mainstay of bluegrass in the 1970s\, a period when the music took off in new directions as bands eagerly incorporated influences from rock and pop. \nToday\, although bluegrass enjoys relatively little radio exposure\, the music continues to thrive. The nonprofit International Bluegrass Music Association was founded in 1985\, a bluegrass category was added to the Grammy Awards in 1989\, and the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame was founded in Owensboro\, Kentucky\, in 1991. Billboard launched its bluegrass albums chart in 2002\, two years after the wildly popular soundtrack to the film O Brother\, Where Art Thou? introduced bluegrass to yet another generation of fans. Today\, bluegrass festivals held around the world\, like the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado and Bluegrass Live! in North Carolina\, draw thousands of fans every year. \nArt director Antonio Alcalá worked with designer and illustrator Heather Moulder to produce the stamp art. \nThe Bluegrass stamp is being issued as a Forever® stamp. This Forever stamp is always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail® one-ounce price. \n	Postal Products \nCustomers may purchase stamps and other philatelic products through the Postal Store at usps.com/shopstamps\, by calling 844-737-7826\, by mail through USA Philatelic or at Post Office locations nationwide.
