We’ll study the playing techniques of bluegrass legends like Tony Rice\, Jimmy Martin\, and others to understand how they shaped the foundation of bluegrass guitar.\nClass Two: Introduction to Soloing\nExpanding on our rhythm work\, we’ll explore the art of soloing\, starting with the iconic Maybelle Carter’s style and the innovative way Norman Blake transformed her rhythm/solo technique\, famously known as “The Carter Scratch.” This class will lay the groundwork for incorporating solos into your bluegrass playing.\nClass Three: Crafting Memorable Solos\nHere\, we’ll explore how to take a simple melody and elevate it with embellishments like “neighbor notes\,” tremolo\, harmonized scales\, and other techniques that add complexity and flair to your solos\, making them truly stand out.\nClass Four: Crosspicking\nWe’ll examine George Shuffler’s pioneering crosspicking style\, which mimicked the banjo roll with a repeating three-note pattern. This technique is perfect for playing melodies\, particularly on vocal-driven songs. We’ll also explore how renowned flatpickers like Clarence White and Doc Watson employed crosspicking to create their signature sound.\nClass Five: Improvisation\nIn this class\, we’ll focus on improvisation techniques that allow you to create unique solos on songs you’ve never heard before. Drawing inspiration from Duke Ellington’s concept of “Spontaneous Composition\,” we’ll cover targeting chord tones\, arpeggios\, and incorporating blues notes to make every solo feel fresh and original.\n	Banjo: Instructor – Alan Munde\n \nAlan Munde is a true pioneer in the bluegrass music industry.  He played with Jimmy Martin and Byron Berline\, Roland White\, and Clarence White.  In addition\, he’s recorded with Sam Bush and John Cowan.  Alan won the Steve Martin Banjo prize in 2021 and is a member of the IBMA Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. \nBanjo Course Descriptions \nClass One: Banjo Rolls \nThis class will cover the fundamentals of banjo rolls\, demonstrating how basic rolls are used to structure melodies. We will also introduce strategies for bluegrass backup\, focusing on combining chord shapes\, rolls\, licks\, and runs to create effective banjo accompaniment\, along with a method for integrating all these elements. \nClass Two: Understanding the Fingerboard \nThis class covers nine chord shapes\, providing a roadmap for organizing the fingerboard in all twelve keys. It will also expand your toolbox for playing solos and backup\, particularly on slower songs. \nClass Three: Finding The Melody \nDiscover tips for identifying chord changes and the melody in songs. We will also cover the phonetics of bluegrass banjo which include rolls\, maneuvers\, and licks that form the core language of bluegrass banjo playing. \nClass Four: Melodic Style \nThe Melodic Style focuses on playing fiddle tunes and emphasizes the unique approach required to navigate the fingerboard in order to perform them effectively. \nClass Five: Creating Solos & Banjo Licks \nThis class will focus on creating bluegrass banjo solos by combining rolls and melodies in a stylized manner. It also emphasizes expanding our lick vocabulary to inspire creativity and enhance our music-making. \n	Bass: Instructor – Vickie Vaughn\n \nBassist and vocalist Vickie Vaughn fronts the Vickie Vaughn Band\, a progressive bluegrass ensemble. She has performed at DelFest and on the Grand Ole Opry and has toured as a backing vocalist with Patty Loveless. Vaughn also performs in the bluegrass bands High Fidelity and Della Mae. In 2023\, she was named the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Bass Player of the Year. \nBass Course Description \nClass One: Setting the Foundation – Timing\, Note Choice\, & Tone \nIn this first class\, we will establish the core elements that every Bluegrass bassist needs to know: solid timing\, the importance of note choice\, and how to achieve the right tone for Bluegrass. \nClass Two: Funky Walk-Ups and Walking Bass Lines \nLearn how to add character and flair to your bass lines with funky walk-ups and smooth walking bass lines. These techniques are a signature of the Bluegrass sound and will give your bass playing a new level of groove. \nClass Three: The Nashville Number System \nThis class will introduce you to the Nashville Number System\, a critical skill for all Bluegrass players. This system allows you to play in any key and gives you a higher-level understanding of the chord structure in Bluegrass music. \nClass Four: Mastering the Art of Bass Fills – When and Where to Play \nThis class will focus on the skillful art of adding bass fills into your playing. We’ll explore where and when it’s appropriate to insert fills to enhance the music. \nClass Five: Vickie’s Honky Tonk Bass Method – Bringing Groove to Bluegrass \nIn this final class\, students will explore Vickie’s Honky Tonk Bass Method\, a unique approach designed to bring both swing and funk to your Bluegrass bass playing. \n	Fiddle: Instructor – Maddie Denton\n \nA third-generation fiddle player\, Maddie Denton is the 2016 Grand Masters Fiddle Champion and the owner of 14 state championship titles.  She currently plays fiddle and sings tenor in the Dan Tyminski Band in addition to East Nash Grass. \nClass One: Fiddle Fingerboard Exploration \nClass Two: Improvisation Breakdown \nClass Three: Basic Music Theory \nClass Four: Tips For Playing Pesky Keys \nClass Five: Removing Fiddle Obstacles \n	Mandolin: Instructor – Scott Napier\n \nScott Napier is a talented mandolin player renowned for his skill in blending traditional bluegrass techniques with modern influences\, creating a style that is both innovative and deeply rooted in classic sounds. Over the years\, Napier has toured and recorded with some of the most prominent names in bluegrass music. For the past decade\, he has been a leading figure in bluegrass music education. As of March 2024\, Napier is spearheading the new Capital Bluegrass & Traditional Music Program at Owensboro Community & Technical College. Napier was a recent nominee for the International Bluegrass Music’s Associations Mentor of the Year award. \nMandolin Course Descriptions \nClass One: Covering The Basics! Essentials for all levels. \nClass Two: Learning Tunes & Ear Training – The many ways to go about it. \nClass Three: Let’s Write a Tune! \nClass Four: Intro to building speed in your playing. Learn to play fast! \nClass Fine: Gather At The River – 50 years of Bluegrass Gospel Mandolin. \nA look at some of bluegrass gospel’s most iconic mandolin kick offs\, solos\, & hymn interpretations. \n	Bluegrass Vocals: Instructors – Jen Larson & Rick Faris\n \nJen Larson is a Nashville-based vocalist and also the former Archives Manager for the Grand Ole Opry Archives. As a vocalist and songwriter\, Jen draws deeply from the early country and bluegrass music catalogs\, and she has garnered critical praise for her work with the former band\, Straight Drive. She has performed widely\, with appearances at New York City’s Town Hall for several live broadcasts of Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion”\, at the Wheeling Jamboree\, Carnegie Hall\, and many other regional and national festivals and concerts. Jen has also contributed vocal lead and harmony recordings as part of Artistworks bluegrass vocals curriculum taught by Michael Daves. \nClass One: Signature Elements of Bluegrass Vocals \nThis class will introduce bluegrass music and its distinctive vocal style\, exploring how it differs from country\, old-time\, and folk music. We’ll discuss the “high lonesome sound” and examine iconic vocalists who defined the genre. The Nashville numbering system will be introduced to help with learning vocal parts\, followed by a class exercise on reading song charts. The song for this class is “New River Train” by Charlie and Bill Monroe. \nClass Two: Lead\, Harmony & Duet Singing – Featuring Rick Faris \nSession Two will dive into lead and harmony singing\, emphasizing how lead singing drives a band and harmony is shaped by the melody. We will discuss finding personal connection with songs and the importance of transposing songs to fit vocal ranges. The class explores the influence of “brother duets” and close harmony on bluegrass\, highlighting famous vocal partnerships and the significance of listening and blending. The song for this session is Memories of Mother and Dad by Bill Monroe and Jimmy Martin. \nClass Three: Song Arranging \nThis session will include a recap of memories of Mother and Dad\, incorporating a staggered\, syncopated chorus to enhance the song’s emotional impact. We’ll explore the importance of pre-bluegrass source recordings with the song Where the Soul of Man Never Dies and discover how older songs can be reworked by different generations of musicians. \nClass Four: Introduction To Trio Singing \nWe will cover the basics of trio singing\, focusing on “standard” and “stacked” trios. Standard trios consist of a lead\, tenor\, and baritone\, as heard in classic Jimmy Martin songs\, with Paul Williams on tenor and J.D. Crowe on baritone\, or in the Osborne Brothers with Bobby on tenor and Sonny on baritone. Stacked trios feature a high lead\, low tenor\, and baritone\, as demonstrated by the Stanley Brothers and the Osborne Brothers in “Once More.” Female vocalists like Rhonda Vincent and Dolly Parton also use stacked trios. The “flipping trios” exercise\, switching parts\, helps train the ear and alter a song’s sound. We will focus on the song If That’s the Way You Feel by the Stanley Brothers. \nClass Five: Putting It Together \nIn this review session\, students will pair up or form trios to perform a song they’ve worked on during the course\, or another song they’d like to try\, focusing on lead and harmonies by ear. They’ll have time to rehearse together before presenting their performance to the group. This is a valuable opportunity to apply what you’ve learned\, collaborate\, and workshop bluegrass vocal style in a supportive\, relaxed setting. \n \nRick started out picking bluegrass in his family band\, the Faris Family\, at the age of seven. He was destined for a successful career by getting a head start in his music from his father\, Bob Faris\, a professional touring musician in his own right. Bob played alongside Reba McEntire on many stages\, including the Grand Ole Opry. Rick’s family of six\, consisting of mom\, dad\, Rick\, and his three brothers\, toured extensively for many years honing their craft. Rick is known for his clear\, brilliant tenor voice that lends itself to all emotions of the music. He has a strong\, unique lead vocal and a guitar persona that sets him apart from the rest. While not touring\, he spends a large amount of his time with his family and honing his skills as a renowned luthier. Simontacchi\, Long\, Bub\, & Cobb \n	Sam Bush \n \nSam Bush\, a pioneer of the “newgrass” movement\, has collaborated with artists like Doc Watson\, Emmylou Harris\, Garth Brooks\, and Shania Twain. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009\, was inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame in 2020\, and was named the “Father of Newgrass” in 2010. \nIn 2022\, Sam Bush released Radio John: Songs of John Hartford\, paying tribute to his friend and mentor. The album features Bush’s personal favorites from Hartford’s catalog\, including songs he played with him in the 1970s. In the liner notes\, Bush reflects on his lifelong admiration for Hartford\, starting with hearing him on The Wilburn Brothers Show in 1967 and later performing with him in New Grass Revival. Rodney Dillard as founding member of The Dillards is seen nearly everyday somewhere in the world thanks to The Andy Griffith Show reruns. \nRodney continued to modernize and innovate the sound of Bluegrass as he wrote and collaborated to write such now classic songs as “There Is a Time”\, “The Darlin Boys”\, “Ebo Walker”\, and “Dooley”. He has stayed involved in the music industry by producing albums\, TV\, and radio commercials and has toured worldwide for 50 years. \n	Mike Compton \n \nMike Compton\, mentored by Bill Monroe\, is a leading interpreter of Monroe’s mandolin style. He teaches at the annual Monroe Mandolin Camp in Nashville\, where students learn everything from bluegrass basics to intricate details of Monroe’s style. Compton has toured and recorded with artists like Sting\, Gregg Allman\, Elvis Costello\, John Hartford\, Doc Watson\, and Ralph Stanley\, cementing his place as a master of the modern American mandolin and Americana music. With over 140 albums\, his work includes collaborations with Willie Nelson\, Dolly Parton\, and Patty Loveless\, keeping the mandolin relevant in contemporary music. \nA Mississippi native\, Compton began playing the mandolin in his teens\, influenced by blues\, country\, and bluegrass. He co-founded the Nashville Bluegrass Band and has been part of He’s also been a part of the John Hartford Stringband\, Helen Highwater Stringband\,\n1942\, Compton & Newberry\, and other seminal groups. His expertise was crucial for T-Bone Burnett’s O Brother\, Where Art Thou? project\, which won a Grammy and sparked a bluegrass revival.\n	Alison Brown \n \nAlison Brown\, an internationally recognized banjoist\, transitioned from investment banking to music after missing the bluegrass she grew up with in Southern California. She joined Alison Krauss and Union Station\, then formed her own group\, The Alison Brown Quartet\, in 1993. Known for her unique style\, Alison and her band have performed at prestigious venues worldwide\, including The Kennedy Center and Newport Folk Festival. Alison was featured on the album\, Memories of John: The John Hartford String Band. She has released 12 acclaimed solo albums\, won a GRAMMY\, and received numerous nominations and awards. Alison co-founded Compass Records Group\, a highly regarded roots music label\, and serves on the Recording Academy Board\, Vanderbilt’s faculty\, and as co-chair of the Steve Martin Banjo Prize. \n	Jim Lauderdale (Saturday Only) \n \nJim Lauderdale is always immersed in music\, whether recording a new track in the studio or experimenting with melodies at home in Nashville. If he’s not actively making music\, he’s reflecting on it. “It’s a constant challenge to make better records and write better songs. I still feel like I’m a developing artist\,” he says. Despite his two Grammy wins\, 34 albums\, and the Americana Music Association’s Wagonmaster Award\, he continues to grow. Miller\n \nJohn R Miller is a true hyphenate artist: singer-songwriter-picker. One of his biggest long-time fans is roots music favorite Tyler Childers\, who says he’s “a well-travelled wordsmith mapping out the world he’s seen\, three chords at a time.” Miller is somehow able to transport us to a shadowy honkytonk and get existential all in the same line with his tightly written compositions. As it pertains to The Local Honeys he was right on the money. For almost a decade the duo (Montana Hobbs and Linda Jean Stokley) have been an integral part of the Kentucky musicscape. They’ve paid their dues\, garnering countless accolades and accomplishments (tours with Tyler Childers\, Colter Wall\, praise from the New York Times) and have become the defining sound of real deal\, honest-to-god Kentucky music.

Friday After Five will sell concessions\, but this is an alcohol-free concert series creating a family friendly environment for people of all ages. Seating is not provided\, so be sure to bring your chair and blankets for a good ol’ time on the lawn. No outside coolers permitted. \nScheduled from 5pm to 8pm\, Faith Night at the Museum is a free event featuring food trucks and live music.  The Owensboro Bluegrass Band will take the stage at 5:30p and the Guest Artist will begin at 6:45p. \n	Change\, particularly unexpected change\, can sometimes be a foundational crack that causes the whole structure to come tumbling down. Survival\, it turns out\, depends on what you do with the rubble. After 20 years of touring\, 24 radio hits and full album sales exceeding 750\,000\, Sanctus Real cemented itself as a trusted brand in Christian music. But in 2016\, original members Mark Graalman and Chris Rohman experienced a windfall of change that shook the foundation of everything they had built. They parted ways with their longtime label partner\, their booking agent\, and close friend and lead singer\, Matt Hammitt\, left the band to spend more time with his family. \n“We started this band in our parents’ basement and never knew we’d get this far\,” shares Rohman. “When Matt left\, Mark and I just started praying and waiting to see what God had planned for us.” \nEnter Dustin Lolli\, Sanctus Real’s new lead singer and creative influence. When Lolli met Graalman and Rohman\, he was working as a full-time worship leader in Michigan and performing in a folk duo with his wife. \n“We immediately loved Dustin’s approach to songwriting and lyric structure\,” says Graalman\, “and knew he could be a refreshing addition to the band.” \nFor Lolli\, the decision to join Sanctus Real seemed like an easy one\, but getting to know the heart of the band tipped the scales. “I saw in these guys a real focus to write songs that move people toward an understanding of their identity in Christ. They’ve built an amazing platform to be able to share God’s love and I knew I wanted to be a part of that.” \nWith a new lead singer in place\, the trio began writing songs for Changed\, their first album together. Lolli’s soulful vocals are noticeably different from the band’s original sound\, but the focus of the music remains – hope found in an unchanging savior. While the new songs are certainly influenced by the outward changes the band has experienced\, the message is centered on how change can bring about personal redemption. Life is\, whether good or bad\, a series of unexpected moments. With Changed\, the band communicates that nothing’s ever a lost cause in the kingdom of heaven. Stripping away what was and getting down to the one thing that matters has given the band a new voice and solidified the purpose behind it. \n“We’re a group of guys making music together as opposed to a group of guys getting behind a song. We’re focusing back on the simple message of the gospel\,” says Graalman. “It’s the simple message of God’s love.” \nWith a shift in focus and a new lead singer\, the next season for the band is a clean slate\, a transition\, a rebirth of the original vision for making music together. In the midst of that rebirth\, Sanctus Real is discovering when you focus on what matters\, you open yourself up to even more possibility.

The road that started on the pop music charts in the ’70’s\, took a winding turn into country music in the’80’s\, paving the way for duos to come\, such as Brooks & Dunn\, Montgomery Gentry\, Big & Rich\, andpreviously-The Judds. But before the road forked into country\, the musical odyssey of brothers Bellamystarted creatively smoldering in their home state of Florida\, before exploding nationally amidst the ’70’spop music culture of L.A. The brothers first official gig was in 1968\, playing a free show with their father at the RattlesnakeRoundup in San Antonio\, Florida. They honed their early skills playing black clubs throughout the south\,and singing backup for artists such as Percy Sledge\, Eddie Floyd\, and Little Anthony & The Imperials.Within a few months\, the brothers moved north\, immersing themselves and their rock/country sound inthe Atlanta market\, where the Allman Brothers were the emerging kings of the music world.With the dawning of the Age of Aquarius on the horizon\, and America embroiled in a smoke haze ofdrugs\, civil unrest and an unpopular war\, The Bellamy’s music picked-up the hard driving edge thatbespoke the times. Songwriting had become David Bellamy’s drug of choice during the long road gigs heand Howard were regularly pulling bodies and equipment to and from. It was his songwriting that wasposed to soon provide the duo a national breakout. The break came in the form of the hit\, “Spiders & Snakes\,” written by David and recorded by Jim Stafford.The song became a smash\, eventually selling more than three million units worldwide. It became thecatapult that rocketed the brother onto the L.A. music scene. Young and impressionable\, Howard andDavid fell into the musical circle of the greats of the day: Bob Dylan\, James Taylor\, and Van Morrison\, aswell as West Coast based country rockers like Poco and the Byrds.It was a creative shoe that fit. Now known by their music and the company they were keeping\, The Bellamys officially lifted off thelaunch pad in 1976 when their single\, “Let Your Love Flow\,” became an instant smash in both the U.S. andEurope. It stayed on the international charts long enough to build a huge international fan base for thehip young brothers that endures to this day. In Germany alone it perched at #1 for more than twomonths. The love was indeed flowing as The Bellamys jammed for audiences on their sold-out concertsand shared stages with the likes of Loggins & Messina\, the Doobie Brothers\, and the Beach Boys.\, withtheir patented blend of rock/country music. True to their musical roots\, their style and their songwriting was moving steadily more towards theirraising. By the late ’70’s The Bellamys were emerging on the country charts with another bona fidesmash. “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me)\,” originally scrawled on adinner napkin by David\, rocketed them to the top of the country charts the way “Let Your Love Flow\,” haddone in the pop market just a few years earlier. It proved to be the first of a string of fourteen #1 singlesin the U.S. alone. Success followed success: “Dancing Cowboys\,” “Sugar Daddy\,” “You Ain’t Just Whistlin’ Dixie\,” “LoversLive Longer\,” “Do You Love As Good As You Look\,” “Redneck Girl\,” “For All The Wrong Reasons\,” “I LoveHer Mind\,” “I Need More Of You\,” “Old Hippie\,” “Too Much Is Not Enough\,” “Kids Of The Baby Boom\,” and“Reggae Cowboy” and “Crazy From The Heart\,”…all have lined the corridors of the Bellamy’s musicalhistory and their walls with platinum and gold. Along the way\, Howard and David created a patent on the newly cool “duo” category in country music. Inthe era of the 2000’s\, The Bellamy Brothers hold the record in both the Academy of Country Music (ACM)and the Country Music Association Awards (CMA) for the most duo nominations. Numerous Grammynods have also been directed toward the brothers. Internationally\, the story has been the same-though the titles may be different. So\, at nine years old\, he picked up the mandolin.\nAnd he never put it down. \nIt was a similar love affair of music for Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris\, who started playing classical violin\nin the fourth grade\, but by the fifth grade\, she knew it wasn’t for her. They have been privileged to grace the stage with legendary entertainers\, like Kenny Rogers\, Brad Paisley\, Rascal Flatts\, Vince Gill\, The Oak Ridge Boys\, the Gaither Vocal Band\, the Isaacs just to name a few. \nThe brothers have also proudly entertained our U.S. Troops in Kuwait\, Qatar\, UAE\, Germany and at many military bases in the United States as well. They have appeared at many sporting events and venues singing the National Anthem\, including the ’85 and ’89 World Series\, and  the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. They have performed in Yankee Stadium\, the Astrodome\, Nissan Titans Stadium\, Candlestick Park\, Chicago White Sox Ballpark\, NHL All Star Hockey Game in Calgary\, Alberta Canada\, Darlington NASCAR Speedway\, the Cotton Bowl\, Sugar Bowl\, Rose Bowl\, Giants Stadium\, New Orleans Saints Superdome\, Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium\, Houston Texans’ Reliant Stadium and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing\, China. \nTheir career began in Abilene\, Texas in 1955 when Larry was seven\, Steve was four and Rudy was two. The brothers grew up singing gospel music while listening to James Blackwood and the Blackwood Brothers\, Hovie Lister\, and The Statesmen Quartet as well other accomplished gospel artists. As children the brothers would sing for anyone who would listen. Soon they were singing from coast to coast and appeared at the World’s Fair in 1964 in New York City. They recorded four Gospel records early in their career. In 1966\, Larry went to college at the University of Houston where he studied English and Law. In 1971\, he auditioned for The Imperials\, Elvis’ backup group. While he did not get the job\, he met Dottie West\, who was the opening act for Jimmy Dean. Dean would later become one of Larry’s oldest and dearest friends. Dottie was initially taken with Larry’s resemblance to Nashville songwriter Mickey Newbury. She told him one night in Las Vegas that he looked so much like Mickey\, he had to be able to write great songs too. Encouraged\, Larry returned to Houston\, wrote eight songs\, and sent them to Dottie.  She liked them so much she sent him a plane ticket to Nashville. \nThrough Dottie’s friendship\, Larry met Kris Kristofferson\, who championed his talents as a writer and singer. Kristofferson’s introduction to Fred Foster at Monument Records resulted in a recording contract with the label. Larry’s first album\, The Pilgrim\, was released later that year. DESCRIPTION:The opening weekend of Jerry Garcia: A Bluegrass Journey Exhibition at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum launches with an immersive experience of exhibition tours\, live music\, historic panel discussions\, and more to celebrate the bluegrass career of music icon\, Jerry Garcia. The exhibition explores Garcia’s early years as a banjo player\, his deep connection to bluegrass\, the influence it had on his legendary career. The exhibit will run for two years. \nOpening weekend festivities include three days of concerts featuring the Sam Grisman Project and house band Leftover Salmon. Throughout the weekend they will be joined by special guests including Peter Rowan\, David Nelson\, Jim Lauderdale\, Ronnie McCoury\, Eric Thompson\, Pete Wernick\, and Kyle Tuttle. Be sure to check out the other festivities of the weekend! \n			\n							Concert Tickets\n					\n				\n\n		Ricky Skaggs\n	\nFifteen-time GRAMMY® Award-winner Ricky Skaggs’ career is easily among the most significant in recent country music history. If Skaggs’ burgeoning trophy case full of awards wasn’t already enough evidence of that fact\, consider that legendary guitarist Chet Atkins once credited Skaggs with “single-handedly saving country music.” His life’s path has taken him to various musical genres\, from where it all began in bluegrass music\, to striking out on new musical journeys\, while still leaving his musical roots intact. \nBorn July 18\, 1954 in Cordell\, Kentucky\, Skaggs showed signs of future stardom at an early age\, playing mandolin on stage with bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe at 6 and appearing on TV with Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs at 7. He emerged as a professional bluegrass musician in 1971\, when he and his friend Keith Whitley were invited to join the legendary Ralph Stanley’s band the Clinch Mountain Boys. Skaggs then went on to record and perform with progressive bluegrass acts like the Country Gentlemen and J.D. Crowe & the New South\, whose self-titled 1975 Rounder Records debut album was instantly recognized as a landmark bluegrass achievement. He then led Boone Creek\, which also featured Dobro ace and fellow New South alumnus Jerry Douglas. \nBut Skaggs turned to the more mainstream country music genre in the late ’70s when he joined Emmylou Harris’s Hot Band\, replacing Rodney Crowell. He became a recording artist in his own right in 1981 when his Epic label debut album Waitin’ for the Sun to Shine topped the country charts and yielded a pair of #1 hits. Overall\, his productive stay at Epic Records would result in a total of 12 #1 hits. Additionally\, he garnered eight Country Music Association Awards–including the coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy in 1985. \nSkaggs\, of course\, fit right in with young “new-traditionalist” ’80s artists like Randy Travis\, and helped rejuvenate the country music genre after the worn-out “Urban Cowboy” period. But\, Skaggs put his own stamp on the country format by infusing his bluegrass and traditional country music roots into the contemporary Nashville sound. \nSkaggs’ 1997 album Bluegrass Rules!\, released on his newly-formed Skaggs Family Records label\, marked a triumphant return to bluegrass-which he’s solidified ever since with a series of GRAMMY® Award winning albums\, recorded with his amazing bluegrass band\, Kentucky Thunder (8-time winners of the IBMA ‘Instrumental Group of the Year’). Skaggs’ label has also served as a home for similar bluegrass and roots music-oriented artists including The Whites. \nIn the past decade\, he has been honored with inductions into the Gospel Music Association’s Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame. In 2018\, a landmark year\, Skaggs was also awarded membership into the National Fiddler Hall of Fame\, the IBMA Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and country music’s greatest honor\, the Country Music Hall of Fame. Most recently\, he was awarded the prestigious National Medal of Arts in 2020 for his contributions to the American music industry. \nRicky struck his first chords on a mandolin over 60 years ago\, and he continues to do his part to lead the recent roots revival in music. Clearly his passion for it puts him in the position to bring his lively\, distinctively American form of music out of isolation and into the ears and hearts of audiences across the country and around the world.
