Join us November 13–14 at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum in Owensboro, Kentucky, for The Old Home Place: A Mayberry Weekend - a special two-day celebration honoring one of bluegrass music’s most beloved families and their unforgettable connection to The Andy Griffith Show.
Known to generations of viewers as the Darling Family, The Dillards brought their signature bluegrass sound to Mayberry, helping introduce the genre to television audiences across the country. Their memorable performances became a beloved part of the show and helped cement their place in both bluegrass and television history.
This special weekend brings that legacy to life with live bluegrass, special guests, stories, meet-and-greets, and plenty of Mayberry memories. Enjoy performances by Rodney Dillard & The Dillards and The Little Roy and Lizzie, along with appearances from a special lineup of “Friends from Mayberry.”

Rodney Dillard
Rodney Dillard, founding member of the legendary Dillards (the “Darlings” of The Andy Griffith Show), has enjoyed a career spanning more than 50 years. A Grammy™ nominee and International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame inductee, Rodney helped pioneer progressive bluegrass and country rock, earning recognition as the “Father of Country Rock.” His innovative approach blended traditional bluegrass with electric instruments, drums, steel guitar, and orchestration. Alongside his musical career, Rodney has appeared in numerous films, television programs, and commercials and continues to record, perform, produce, and tour worldwide.
The Little Roy and Lizzie Show
Little Roy Lewis and Lizzy Long are a dynamic duo bringing together traditional bluegrass, gospel, humor, and unforgettable entertainment.
Lizzy, born on a farm in Lincolnton, Georgia, began playing music at an early age and became an accomplished multi-instrumentalist on fiddle, guitar, autoharp, bass, banjo, mandolin, and piano. She has performed with legendary artists including Mac Wiseman, Jim & Jesse, The Lewis Family, and Earl Scruggs. Her many honors include a GMA Dove Award for Bluegrass Song of the Year, and her solo album Blueberry Pie reached No. 2 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart.
Little Roy began playing banjo at age six and went on to become an award-winning musician and entertainer. A talented banjo, guitar, and autoharp player, he is also known for his singing, storytelling, and humor. USA Today called him “a banjo master, truly a picker’s picker.” He has been inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, SPBGMA Hall of Greats, IBMA Hall of Honor, and Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Together, Little Roy and Lizzy deliver a lively blend of exceptional musicianship, powerful vocals, heartfelt gospel and bluegrass, and plenty of laughs.
Friends From Mayberry
Allan Newsome grew up in a small, rural Alabama town not unlike Mayberry. Since 1994, he has brought Floyd the Barber to life at Mayberry events across the country, appearing in more than 17 states and performing at venues. Allan co-starred in the film Mayberry Man and will also be featured in the upcoming Mayberry Man series.
Terry Varvel has been bringing Mayberry’s lovable Deputy Barney Fife to life for more than 25 years. A longtime fan of The Andy Griffith Show, Terry first portrayed Barney in the 1990s after being encouraged to take on the character for a community performance. What started as an occasional role for parties, parades, and local events grew into a passion that has taken him to Mayberry festivals and events across the country.
Christie McLendon has been bringing the spirit of Mayberry to life since 2010, when she first began performing as Charlene Darling at Mayberry events. Known for her beautiful singing voice and fun-loving personality, Christie performs all of Charlene’s songs from The Andy Griffith Show while also creating original parody songs inspired by Mayberry.
Eric Lowry has brought Mayberry’s Mayor Pike, to life since the early 2000s and has embraced every opportunity to keep the Mayberry spirit alive. He can often be seen serving as an emcee and auctioneer for Mayberry events in his hometown of Scottsburg. Eric also appeared as a judge in the 2021 film Mayberry Man.
Rick Grimsley is a longtime fan of The Andy Griffith Show and a familiar face at Mayberry events. For years, tribute artists would call him “Henry Bennett,” thanks to his uncanny resemblance to the Mayberry citizen. Eventually, Rick embraced the comparison and began dressing as “the town jinx,” taking ownership of the role.
