Join us for Sounds of Bluegrass, a brand-new weekly concert series celebrating the rich tradition and vibrant future of bluegrass music. Join us each week for live performances featuring talented regional and touring musicians.
This performance will feature Ruth McLain Smith:
From eastern Kentucky, Ruth McLain Smith has enjoyed playing bass and performing original and traditional Bluegrass music in all 50 states, including venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Grand Ole Opry, as well as in 65 countries around the world. With the McLain Family Band, Ruth continues touring nationally and internationally, adding special concerts as soloists with symphony orchestras.
Ruth has been an instructor at the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University for the past 14 years, sharing a lifelong perspective on the living history of bluegrass music with the next generation. She served for 9 years on the IBMA Foundation’s board of directors, and, as a charter member of the McLain Family Band, received IBMA’s Distinguished Achievement Award, and was inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2024. Recording since 1970, their most recent releases are Kentucky Moon (2025) and the McLain Family Band Collection, Volumes 1 & 2 boxed sets (2025).

Museum Visitors: This concert is included with regular museum admission. Please present your museum admission receipt for concert entry.
Advance Tickets: Advance tickets are available for $10.
Seating is general admission. This concert will begin at 12:00 PM.
